Peatlands Sweater (English)

Peatlands Sweater is worked from the top down with a circular yoke featuring a simple and traditional colourwork design.

First the neck is worked in ribbing, then the yoke is shaped with 4 rounds of increases that are distributed across the length of the yoke. The sweater is then divided for the body and sleeves, and new stitches are cast on for the underarms. The body and sleeves are finished separately and worked in the round, and the edges completed with ribbing and bound off using the Italian Bind-off technique. The pattern includes an option to work short rows after the stranded knitting to tilt the yoke forwards and thus shaping the neckline without distorting the colour work.

Yoke depth:

Gauge:
19 sts x 28 rounds in stockinette on 4.5mm needles = 10 x 10 cm after blocking
19 sts x 23 rounds in colourwork on 4.5mm needles = 10 x 10 cm after blocking

Nb) Your knitting tension may be different when working a stranded knitting pattern. It is therefore recommended to work a swatch so you can switch to a larger needle or smaller needle (typically +/- 0.5mm or +1/- mm) if required to maintain the pattern gauge. I personally go up +0.5mm when working with more than one colour.

Working the optional short rows will require an additional 10 (15, 15, 15, 15) (15, 15, 15, 20) 20, 20 g Tweed by Isager (50g = 200m) held together with 10 (10, 10, 10, 10) (10, 10, 10, 10) 15, 15 g Soft Fine by Isager (25g = 150m) OR 5 (5, 5, 5, 10) (10, 10, 10, 10) 10, 10 g Brushed Deluxe by Sysleriget (50g = 400m) in the main colour yarn.

If you would prefer to knit with a single strand of yarn for each colour, you could substitute each set of 2 yarns for 1 strand of Puno by Gepard Garn OR Snefnug by CaMaRose. You could also substitute the Soft Fine by Isager/Brushed Deluxe by Sysleriget with any Silk Mohair for a slightly lighter weight garment.

Main colour: 400 (400, 400, 400, 450) (450, 450, 450, 500) 550, 550 g Puno by Gepard Garn or Snefnug by CaMaRose (50g = 110m)

Contrast colour A: 100 (100, 100, 100, 150) (150, 150, 150, 150) 200, 200 g Puno by Gepard Garn or Snefnug by CaMaRose (50g = 110m)

Yarn quantities for Contrast Colour B include a 20% buffer and are round to the nearest 5g. If you choose to lengthen the sweater you may require more of the main colour yarn.
